Marvel Comics today announced a "nationwide radio advertising campaign" in support of the launch of key Marvel NOW! titles including Uncanny Avengers, Deadpool, Fantastic Four, All-New X-Men, Indestructible Hulk, Thor: God of Thunder, and Captain America.
Marvel’s campaign appears to be split between popular sports shows such as the syndicated Jim Rome Show and the Fox Sports network’s Petros & Money, and the more broadly focused drive-time comedy Opie & Anthony show that airs on the X-M and Sirius satellite networks, and Nikki Sixx’s syndicated rock/alternative rock music program.
While Marvel did not provide details about the cost and scope of the Marvel NOW! radio campaign, Senior Vice President of Sales David Gabriel did state: "We’re spending more money on comic book marketing than at any time in Marvel’s history to make sure that, in addition to publicity with major media outlets and top comic sites, that there is strong mass consumer awareness of all our launches from Uncanny Avengers, to All-New X-Men, to Superior Spider-Man."
It certainly appears that Marvel NOW! is off to a strong start with initial orders for Uncanny Avengers #1 well past the 300,000 mark in October (see "'Uncanny Avengers' Debuts on Top").
