The Walt Disney Company has an 80% share of entertainment licensing revenues, according to a Licensing Industry Merchandisers’ Association report as reported by Variety. Disney has six of the top ten entertainment properties, and eight of the top 20. Star Wars is #2 (behind Disney Princess), and Spider-Man is the top Marvel property on the list at #16.
The total retail sales of licensed products in the entertainment category were up 2.8% last year, to $49.3 billion, which puts Disney’s share at $39.4 billion.
