Sales on five comics topped 100,000 in July, one more than in June, and the best performance since April.  Superman Unchained #2, with sales of 165,754 (down 34% from #1) was the top seller, and Batman #22, with sales of 132,047 (down around 10,000 from the first issue in the arc last month), was #2.

Perhaps most notable was the paucity of first issues in the top ranks.  The first launch title, Superior Spider-Man Team Up #1, barely made the Top 10; there are frequently several launches in the Top 5.

On the graphic novel front, the second Matt Fraction Hawkeye volume sold over 9,000 copies, up 30% from the first month sales on Volume 1, which sold 2,300 copies in July.  That first volume has done well in both the comic and the book channels since its release, so it’s not surprising that the second volume shows an uptick.  This material appears to be developing into a significant franchise.

And speaking of new franchises, the two Saga volumes took the #3 and #4 slots.  Volume 2 sold another 7,300+ copies in July, bringing the combined total of the first two months to over 25,000 in comic stores in North America.  Volume 1 sold nearly 6,000 copies, double what it sold in June.

The latest Avatar volume from Dark Horse continued the winning ways of that series, with sales of around 7600 copies and the #2 slot in comic stores in July.
