Sales of periodical comics climbed 6% in October when compared with sales for October 2004. Sales of graphic novels for the month were down 13% vs. 2004 and pulled the growth rate down to an overall rise of only 2% for the combined comic book category, which includes both periodicals and graphic novels. The powerful performance of DC's Infinite Crisis #1 (see 'Infinite Crisis -- A Million Dollar Book!') helped drive periodical comic book sales and played a major role in giving DC a 4.5% lead over Marvel in dollar share among comic book publishers.
