Comics and graphic novel sales are not only booming on the dollars front (see "First Half Comic Sales Up 18%"), the number of bestsellers topping key thresholds in June was the best in years. Eight comic titles sold over 100,000 copies in comic stores in June, driven by Marvels Avengers Vs. X-Men event and DC’s "New 52."  That tied the number of titles over 100,000 from November of 2011; those two months had the most titles over 100,000 since January of 2008, when there were nine that surpassed that threshold.
Two months with eight or more comic bestsellers in a single year (November 2011 and June 2012) hadn’t been seen since August of 2007 and January of 2008.
The scene was similar on the graphic novel front.  There were three graphic novels that sold over 10,000 copies in comic stores in June, and two over 20,000.  That hadn’t happened since November of 2007, which also had two titles over 20,000 and three over 10,000.
The bestselling graphic novel in June was The Walking Dead Vol. 16, which hit a new first-month high with over 28,000 copies sold.  First month sales of The Walking Dead collections have been steadily increasing for years, roughly doubling since early 2009:
June 2012              The Walking Dead Vol. 16           28,284
Dec. 2011              The Walking Dead Vol. 15           21,844
June 2011              The Walking Dead Vol. 14           20,397
Nov. 2010              The Walking Dead Vol. 13           19,324
July 2010               The Walking Dead Vol. 12            16,627
Jan. 2010               The Walking Dead Vol. 11           16,914
Aug. 2009              The Walking Dead Vol. 10            15,643
Jan. 2009               The Walking Dead Vol. 9             14,313
