New York Comic Con News: As part of the celebration of the company’s 75th anniversary as a publishing entity, Marvel Comics announced the November 2nd airing of Marvel 75 Years: From Pulp to Pop, an original hour-long primetime special covering Marvel’s history from 1939 to the present, plus a look at the future.
Hosted by Emily Van Camp (Revenge, Captain America: The Winter Soldier), the one-hour special will be broadcast during the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. timeslot at 9pm (ET, PT) on November 2nd. The special will present the history of Marvel from its beginnings as Timely Comics, the comics division of publisher Martin Goodman empire of pulp magazines, with heroes like the Human Torch, Sub-Mariner, and in 1941 Captain America, to Atlas Comics in the 1950s and finally Marvel Comics in 1961, the year that saw the launch of The Fantastic Four by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, the twin titans who largely built the Marvel empire and populated it with square-jawed heroes with relatable "hang-ups" and enduring popularity.
