Asmodee will release the Egyptian-themed Kemet in partnership with French design house Matagot. The game will premiere at the Spiel game fair in Essen, Germany next month, and will be available for distribution in the United States late in 2012.
The name Kemet refers to the ancient Egyptians’ name for their land. In the game, players lead a tribe of Egyptians as they conquer territory and fight battles against their rivals. Player can draw upon the powers of the ancient Egyptian gods and recruit mythical creatures to reinforce their armies.
Kemet was designed by Jacques Bariot and Guillaume Montiage, who also collaborated on Matagot’s Nefertiti (distributed in the US by Rio Grande). Kemet is a combination action point and area control game with a card-driven combat mechanic. Details of the production have not yet been finalized, but the game is expected to be packaged in a large box with numerous sculpted plastic models, similar to Matagot’s earlier games Giants and Cyclades.
