20th Century Fox has acquired film rights and is developing Magic: The Gathering as a franchise, multi-film property, according to Hollywood Reporter. Simon Kinberg, who’s already producing X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Mark Millar’s Starlight (see "Movie Deal for Millar's 'Starlight'"), and who’s also taken a turn at writing on the later Star Wars films (see "Kasdan and Kinberg for 'Star Wars'") for Fox, will produce.
Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner, Hasbro Studios President Stephen Davis, and Wizards of the Coast CEO Greg Leeds will produce.
Rights to Magic: The Gathering appear clean, unlike movie rights to WotC’s other flagship property, Dungeons & Dragons, which are mired in litigation (see "Top Ten Hobby Games Business Events of 2013").
