Historically, Hollywood’s pretty blasé about graphic images, but apparently not an eyeball worm staring at them as they drive to work.  Negative social media buzz has caused FX Network to pull the offending artwork from its billboard advertisements for the upcoming Guillermo del Toro series The Strain.

"We are in the process of replacing the key art for The Strain on outdoor media in several locations," an FX spokesman said in a prepared statement shared on The Hollywood Reporter.

Negative attention included posts from writers concerned about the effect on children, and from disgusted adults.

The attention has to be all good for the show, which was not likely to draw viewers from those turned off by graphic horror images anyway, but will now start to get an edgy rep that can only help draw more horror fans.

A slightly more contextualized (and squirmy) viewing can be seen in the teaser trailer (see "Ten Seconds to Eye 'Strain'").  The series premieres on July 13th.  Dark Horse Comics will release the latest in a series of graphic novel adaptations of the horror book series on July 2nd (see "Publishing Program for 'The Strain'").
