San Diego Comic-Con News:  At San Diego Comic-Con, ICv2 caught up with Vanguard Publisher J. David Spurlock to discuss more planned Frank Frazetta releases, which include the Frazetta Sketchbook Vol. 2, and future plans for The Sensuous Frazetta.

"Last year we had the big hit Frazetta Sketchbook Vol. 1 (see "'Frazetta Sketchbook'")," Spurlock said, "We’re following that up with Frazetta Sketchbook Vol. 2, which will be out in the fall, and we really sought to top volume one."  The 176-page paperback will have an MSRP of $24.95, and the deluxe hardcover edition, which will include an extra 16 pages, will have an MSRP of $69.95.

"After that, we don’t have a firm release date yet, but we’re going to do one called The Sensuous Frazetta, which will primarily focus on work Frank did in the early 60s," Spurlock shared.  "He did some men’s magazine illustrations and some sexy paperback illustrations, and then we’ll add to that his romance comics and some of the more sensual movie poster paintings."

The offending bootleg
When asked about the title, Spurlock elaborated.  "In the 70s, someone put out a bootleg fanzine, it was not authorized by Frazetta, but they took a lot of the same material that Frank did in the early 60s and they put out a cheap fanzine on newsprint paper.  There were two books that were very popular in the early 70s, The Sensuous Man and The Sensuous Woman.  Well they played off of that title and they called their fanzine The Sensuous Frazetta."

"I thought that was a very good title, so we’re going to bring that title back, but we’re going to do the work in top quality, the best reproduction these pieces have seen. Some of them we’ve been able to track down original art on, some of them we’re doing super high-res 5600 dpi scans, and we’ve got some state of the art techniques to do the best reproduction possible on good quality paper."  Though full details were not complete, the full book is planned to be "around 160 pages."
