Toho has released the first theatrical poster for its live action feature based on the Attack on Titan manga, and the colossal Titan is larger than the largest movie Godzilla ever, according to ANN.
The poster is similar to Hajime Isayama’s original manga cover, but the largest colossal Titan that appeared in the manga and anime series was about 60 meters (200 feet) tall. The live-action version, according to ANN’s report, “… is 120 meters (about 400 feet or 30 stories) tall — towering over even the 108-meter (350-foot) height of the tallest movie Godzilla ever, the monster from Garth Edwards and Legendary Pictures' Godzilla.”
The live-action project has been expanded into two films, which will premiere in Japanese theaters in August and September of 2015. The story is set in the same world and will feature many of the same characters (Eren, Mikasa, Armin) from the manga, but it will also involve seven new characters and new enemies as well.
As of November 2014, the manga has 45 million copies in print. Released in the U.S. by Kodansha Comics, the Attack on Titan manga has been firmly seated on top the manga chart (see “Top 25 Manga Franchises--Summer 2014”) since unseating Naruto late last year (see “Top 25 Manga Properties--Fall/Holidays 2013”). Kodansha’s sister company, Vertical, Inc., began releasing the light novels series tied to the property this year (see “Vertical Split”).
