The long-gestating live action remake of Fire and Ice, the 1983 Frazetta-based animated film by Ralph Bakshi, is going to Sony and appears to be nearing production, according to Deadline. The live action remake, to be directed by Robert Rodriguez, has been in development since at least 2011 (see “Robert Rodriguez Planning ‘Frazetta’ Movies”), with Bold Films. Now with Sony on board, Rodriguez is optimistic, and believes preproduction could start as early as this summer (although it sounds like a script has not been approved).
Rodriguez got interested in the project because he was a friend and fan of Frazetta, who was a producer and writer of the animated version. The scale of the film has grown while in development, with A-list talent interested in the production, according to the report.
