Fantagraphics Books has announced a 10-book series collecting the comics of the Italian master of eroticism Guido Crepax, beginning in November with Crepax: Dracula, Frankenstein, and Other Horror Stories.
Crepax is best known for his character Valentina, a composite of Louise Brooks, Anna Karina, and his wife. His stories starring the strong, independent, sensual Valentina helped legitimize erotic Eurocomics as a medium. His pop art and psychedelic surrealism-inspired graphics also had a strong influence on fashion, architecture, and the French New Wave.
Crepax: Dracula, Frankenstein, and Other Horror Stories features stories inspired by Bram Stoker and Mary Shelley’s work, as well as a half dozen stories starring Valentina--many never before published. The book includes more than 440 pages of comics and contextual material from consulting editor Manuel Espírito Santo, comics historian Paul Gravett, erotica scholar Tim Pilcher, and more. The black and white, 10 1/4" x 14" hardcover will have an MSRP of $75.00.
