Former Warner Bros. prexy Jeff Robinov’s Studio 8 is planning a remake of F.W. Murnau’s classic 1922 horror film Nosferatu.  Murnau’s visually striking silent film, which has had an enormous influence on horror films and horror comics (Dean Motter), has already been remade by Werner Herzog in 1979 with Klaus Kinski in the role of the bald, emaciated vampire protagonist originally played by Max Schreck, and the troubled production of the original Nosferatu provided the fodder for the behind-the-scenes drama Shadow of the Vampire, which starred Willem DaFoe as “Schreck” and John Malkovich as “Murnau” in 2000.  If that wasn’t enough, director David Lee Fisher has a Kickstarter campaign to fund a “faithful” adaptation of Nosferatu with Doug Jones (Hellboy) set for the title role.

If there is any good news in this announcement of yet another big budget remake (Deadline reports that Studio 8 is backed by a billion dollars in capital), it is the fact that Robert Eggers, who won the “Top Director” price at Sundance this year for his excellent period horror film The Witch, is set to direct the Studio 8 remake.
