Chaosium has announced a new printing of RuneQuest 2nd Edition in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the game's setting of Glorantha in 2016. The game is currently seeking funding on Kickstarter, and the campaign will be adding a retailer level later this week, Chaosium president Rick Meints told ICv2.

RuneQuest is a classic fantasy-adventure RPG. It was first published in 1978, released at that year's Origins Game Fair, where it sold out. In the early years of the game, it was incredibly popular, second only to AD&D in sales. The game had since gone out of print, but this summer at Gen Con, Chaosium announced that they had acquired the rights to both RuneQuest and the game's original campaign setting of Glorantha (see "New Owners at Chaosium").

The Kickstarter met its initial funding goal of $30,000 in less than five hours. With 21 days remaining, it has funding of $83,119 from 956 backers (an average of roughly $85 per backer). The Kickstarter includes two versions of RuneQuest Classic Edition, a high quality hardcover with sewn binding, and a deluxe leatherette edition of the book with a dust jacket. Both levels of backing include a printed GM screen, player handouts, and numerous add on options. The 144-page book contains all of the text from 2nd edition, corrected for errata, with additional material supplied in new appendices.

Backer fulfillment planned for January 2016, with a trade release to follow.  MSRP for trade release has not yet been announced.
