Dark Horse Books and Bethesda Softworks have announced the June 8, 2016 release of The Art of Doom, a massive collection of art from id Software’s popular Doom series of first-person shooter video games.  First released in 1993, Doom was a pioneering first-person shooter game, and the Doom games introduced many features that are now commonplace such as 3D graphics, third dimension spatiality, as well as networked multi-player gameplay.  Over 10 million copies of games in the Doom series, which follows the exploits of an unnamed space marine who has to survive continued onslaughts from hordes of demons and undead, have been sold, and a new version of the game is due out on May 13, 2016, which should stimulate interest in Dark Horse’s detailed look at the entire Doom franchise from 1993 to 2016.

The Art of Doom will include never-before-seen sketches and concept art including renderings of the massive UAC (Union Aerospace Corporation) facilities on Mars, as well as complete details on the development of the restless demons of Hell as well as on the over-the-top weaponry needed to deal with the multitudinous Hellspawn that make the game so compelling.

Dark Horse Books has published a number of highly successful art books based on videogames including The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Historia, which sold over 400,000 copies when it was launched in 2013 (see “Dark Horse Has the #1 Book in America”).
