Di Bonaventura Pictures and Caliber Media will partner for a new version of the 1989 cult classic horror film Puppet Master, according to THR.

S. Craig Zahler (Bone Tomahawk) will pen the script of the first feature, currently titled Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich. The film will be the first part in multiple storylines and an expanded mythology. The film will be produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian from di Bonaventura Pictures, as well as Dallas Sonnier and Jack Heller from Caliber Media. Charles Band will executive produce.

The original Puppet Master was written by Charles Band and Kenneth J. Hall, and directed by David Schmoeller. The film was released direct-to-video and distributed by Full Moon Features and Paramount Pictures.  The story followed some psychics who plotted against a former colleague by using murderous puppets brought to life by an Egyptian spell. The original film spawned nine sequels, a line of action figures and a comic series currently produced by Action Lab Entertainment (see “'Puppet Master' Comics”).
