New Bedford explores the history of the town of New Bedford and the whaling industry, combining worker placement and resource management mechanics as players build the town and try to catch the largest whales. The designers hoped to present the controversial history of whaling in a balanced way (see “Historic Whaling Game ‘New Bedford’”). The game has received a positive enough response to justify creating an expansion set.
New Bedford: Rising Tide adds enough ships and supplies for a fifth player. New buildings for the town expansion side of the game are also included, as well as new Ship’s Log, Providence, and Omen game effects. MSRP is $19.95.
