Shout Factory will release a 30th Anniversary Edition of the 1986 animated feature film, Transformers: The Movie on both DVD and Blu-ray on September 13, 2016.  This nostalgic cartoon classic in which Optimus Prime and the autobots attempt to defend their native planet (Cybertron) from the evil Decepticons and the sentient, planet-devouring Unicron (voiced by Orson Welles in one of his last bits of film work) put in play many of the themes and narrative tropes that made the Transformers one of the most popular animated properties of the 1980s.

Transformers: The Movie hasn’t been released since Sony put out a 20th Anniversary Edition in 2006 (copies of which are now selling on Amazon for around $25—and an Australian imprint Blu-ray edition is currently going for more than $35).

The new Shout Factory edition, which will include the first American stand-alone Blu-ray, will be completely re-mastered in high-def from original 35mm elements, and the new 30th Anniversary Edition will come with loads of the great bonus features that Shout Factory is known for including in their nostalgia-drenched offerings.

In addition to Orson Welles, the all-star vocal cast of Transformers: The Movie includes Peter Cullen, Eric Idle, Casey Kasem, Leonard Nimoy, Judd Nelson, Robert Stack, and Frank Welker.
