Hasbro has acquired Irish animation studio Boulder Media, the companies announced. Boulder Media is a 150-person studio, headquartered in Dublin, producing animated series for Disney XD (Wander over Yonder), BBC (Danger Mouse), Cartoon Network (Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends, Amazing World of Gumball), Nickelodeon (El Tigre), and more. The transaction closed on July 13.
Boulder will continue to produce animated series for third-party clients in addition to Hasbro. The wholly-owned subsidiary will report to Stephen Davis, who runs Hasbro’s entertainment and licensing division.
Hasbro may be looking to reduce costs and increase its control over the production of shows featuring its properties.
"At Hasbro, we’re building our brands through storytelling, and today, we’re telling richer stories across more platforms than ever before," Hasbro CEO Brian Goldenr said of the acquisition. "We are also reinventing traditional modalities of animation production, both creatively and financially."
