Comic-Con News:  On the eve of the 2016 San Diego Comic-Con, Image Comics revealed All-America Comix, a new comic book series from creators Joe Casey and Nick Dragotta that features America Vasquez, a kick-ass Latina heroine, who is described in the announcement as "a superpowered champion of the oppressed."  Casey and Dragotta are members of Man of Action Entertainment, a collective responsible for a number of animation and comic book initiatives.  Casey is currently writing a Captain Victory comic for Dynamite (see "'Captain Victory' By Joe Casey").

America Chavez--Marvel's Miss America
As
The Hollywood Reporter points out America Vasquez, the heroine of All America Comix, bears more than a passing resemblance to America Chavez, a Latin-American LGBT character that Casey and Dragotta created for the 2011 Marvel limited series Vengeance, where she appeared as the second incarnation of Miss America, a Marvel heroine first introduced in 1943.  In spite of the increasing number of female superheroes in the Marvel Universe, America Chavez has never gotten her stand-alone series at Marvel, so it appears that Casey and Dragotta are taking a some salient attributes of that character and creating a new series for Image. No indication yet whether America Vasquez will also be an LGBT character, but, like America Chavez, there is a definite "cosmic" side to her personality in All American Comix where her creators promise that she will uncover "the hidden truths of the universe."
