Comic-Con News:  The Image Comics’ series Black Magick, written by Greg Rucka and illustrated by Nicola Scoot, has been optioned for the small screen by Michael London’s Groundswell Productions, the production company behind Syfy’s The Magicians (see “DVD Round-Up: Batman v. Superman, The Magicians, etc.”).  Debuting just this past April, Black Magick is a fantasy-tinged police procedural featuring a female detective (Rowan Black), who is the latest in a long line of witches.

As The Hollywood Reporter points out, “comic book adaptations remain in high demand across broadcast, cable, and streaming services” thanks to the success of  the CW’s DC Comics shows, AMC’s The Walking Dead, and Netflix’s Jessica Jones, just to name one example from each of the 3 small screen delivery formats.  Rucka has another Image comic, Lazarus in development (see “Geek TV News Round-Up”) with Legendary, and his Eisner Award-winning Queen and Country series from Oni is still set up at Fox for the big screen with Ellen Page set to star (see “Queen and Country Movie”).
