Petersen Games has announced Glorantha: The Gods War, a strategy game of gods in conflict, releasing in August 2017. The project is currently seeking funding on Kickstarter.

Set in the long-running fantasy universe of Glorantha, The Gods’ War depicts a conflict between the factions of elemental gods and being who seek to transform that crumbling world in their own image.  The different factions all have unique abilities and strengths, requiring very different strategies and tactics.  The Gods seek to build their elemental empires by controlling territory, acquiring divine gifts, and sending their followers on Hero quests, earning power in the form of victory points during the game.

Glorantha: The Gods War was designed by Sandy Petersen (Arkham Horror, Call of Cthulhu, Cthulhu Wars).  It comes with a double-sided game board, 36 plastic miniatures, 63 tiles, 50 runes, 4 empire sheets, 8 victory point markers, 12 dice, and a scoring track.  MSRP is $125.00.

Petersen Games plans to release five expansions along with the base game:

The Empires expansion will add three additional god factions for the game, and includes 34 miniatures, 3 empire sheets, 44 tiles, and 6 markers.  MSRP is $135.00.

Elder Races adds new allies that can join the player factions.  This expansion adds 27 miniatures, 11 cards, and 11 tiles.  MSRP is $100.00.

Monsters, meanwhile, introduces new challenges for the players to contend with, such as dragons and other unfriendly beasts.  This set has 7 larger-size miniatures, 7 cards, and 7 tiles.  MSRP is $100.00.

The Buildings expansion is an upgrade kit that allows players to replace the building tiles from the game with detailed plastic models.  MSRP is $60.00.

Also available as an upgrade will be a set of 12 custom battle dice, with an MSRP of $15.00.

Petersen Games is funding the project with a Kickstarter campaign that has attracted more than $400,000 of pledged support from over 1300 backers, with 20 days remaining in the campaign.  Campaign backers are scheduled to receive their copies in August 2017, with trade release to follow.
