Fantagraphics Books is known for esoteric and groundbreaking independent comics, but the publisher is adventuring into the realm of superheroes this spring with the All Time Comics line, which it describes as "superhero stories that no other publisher would dare to publish."
The line is written by Josh Bayer (Raw Power) in partnership with his brother, Sam Bayer, a visual artist and director who began his career with Nirvana’s "Smells Like Teen Spirit" video.
An all-star lineup of independent and veteran mainstream comics artists provides art on the series. The first issue features work from Ben Marra (Terror Assaulter: O.M.W.O.T.) and the last artwork produced by Herb Trimpe, the co-creator of Wolverine. Jim Rugg (Street Angel) and Johnny Ryan (Prison Pit) provide covers for the debut. The first 36-page oversized issue is due in March. MSRP is $4.99.
Later issues will feature art by Marra, Firestorm co-creator Al Milgrom, Rick Buckler (Vixen 9), and Noah Van Sciver (Blammo). MSRP for the standard-sized later issues is $3.99.
Fantagraphics has laid out the following schedule for the comics in the series:
All Time Comics: Crime Destroyer #1 by Josh Bayer (story), Herb Trimpe (pencils), and Ben Marra (inks); covers by Jim Rugg and Johnny Ryan - March 2017
All Time Comics: Bullwhip #1 by Josh Bayer (story), Ben Marra (pencils), and Al Milgrom (inks); covers by Das Pastoras and Tony Millionaire - April 2017
