Cubicle 7 Entertainment has partnered with fellow British game publisher Sophisticated Games to produce a new roleplaying game based on the classic works of J.R.R. Tolkien.  The One Ring:  The Lord of the Rings Role-playing Game is expected to release in late 2010.

Sophisticated Games is the holder of the current Lord of the Rings RPG license.  It has already produced an award-winning board game based on the books (see “War of the Ring), and is looking to expand into roleplaying games.  Cubicle 7 Entertainment is an established RPG publisher familiar with high profile licensed properties (see “Cubicle 7 Adds UNIT to Doctor Who RPG”), and is providing the experience and resources with that style of game to the partnership.

Francesco Nepitello and Marco Maggi, both co-designers of War of the Ring, have teamed up again to create this new roleplaying game.  Both designers already have experience working with the genre, and are veteran game designers with numerous credits already in print.  They hope to create a more detailed roleplaying experience than earlier games based on the Lord of the Rings books.  Previous RPGS based on the novels have been released by Decipher and Iron Crown.

One Ring is expected to feature artwork by John Howe, who also worked on War of the Ring.
