Adding to the continuing drumbeat of store closings by retailers of geek culture, Gamestop said it will reduce its store count by a net 180 to 190 stores in 2013, according to The Retail Bulletin.  The reduction in store count will be accomplished by closing 250 stores, 200 in the U.S., while opening 60 to 70 stores in new locations.
In just the most recent similar announcements since the beginning of the year, Barnes & Noble has announced that it will cut up to a third of its stores over the coming decade (see "B&N Confirms Plans to Close Stores"), and Blockbuster has announced that it will cut another 300 stores, or roughly 35% of its remaining store count (see "Blockbuster to Cut 300 More Stores").
