The comic book series will be written by Riverdale showrunner and Archie Comics CCO Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and members of the show’s writer’s room. Black Panther: World of Wakanda artist Alitha Martinez (see “Marvel Hires Black Female Writer For New 'Black Panther' Title”) will draw the ongoing series, which will kick off with a one-shot prequel early next year.
The comics will be set in the same universe as the live-action series, which has been billed as a subversive take on the Archie mythos (see “Mid-May Geek TV Round-Up: 'Supergirl' & 'Riverdale' to the CW”). The one-shot will have variant covers by Derek Charm, Adam Gorham, Robert Hack, Sandra Lanz, Moritat, Dan Parent, Thomas Pitilli, Matthew Dow Smith, and Cory Smith.
