Victor Santos’ interpretation of "Rashomon" is getting a hardcover collection from Dark Horse Comics.

Inspired by the short story by revered Japanese author Ryunosuke Akutagawa, Rashomon: A Commissioner Heigo Kobayashi Case will collect both parts of Santos’ murder mystery set in feudal Japan.  The first part was originally only published in Spain.  The 160-page hardcover goes on sale October 18 at an MSRP of $19.99.

Akutagawa is considered the "father of the Japanese short story," and one of Japan’s most prestigious literary prizes  is named after him.  His work has inspired other artists, notably filmmaker Akira Kurosawa, whose acclaimed Rashomon isn’t an adaptation of "Rashomon," but instead "In the Grove," another murder mystery short story by Akutagawa.

Dark Horse has previously collected Santos’ stylish spy thriller webcomic Polar: Came from the Cold (see "Dark Horse Collects Two Webcomics").
