Palladium Books has filed suit in federal court against Trion Worlds over Trion’s plans to release a new game titled Rift:  Planes of Telara, a “fantasy MMO roleplaying game,” which it is marketing using the URL riftgame.com.  Palladium, of course, is the longtime publisher of the Rifts RPG and licensor of the Rifts:  Promise of Power computer game.

Palladium filed suit on five counts:  trademark infringement, false designation of origin, trademark dilution, unfair trade practices (this under Michigan law), and common law unfair competition. It requested an injunction preventing Trion from using the name or the domain name, and that Trion be ordered to pay Palladium all income it has received from the name, damages, and fees.
