Unless somebody blinks it appears that Memorial Day 2008 will feature a blockbuster showdown between Warner Bros.' Speed Racer, which opens on May 23rd, and Paramount's Indiana Jones 4 (see 'Indiana Jones 4 Script Approved'), which is due to debut a day earlier on May 22nd.  Just like May 2007, which features an abundance of blockbusters including Spider-Man 3, Shrek 3 and the third Pirates of the Caribbean movie, May 2008 will kick off another front-loaded summer movie season with Marvel's Iron Man releasing on May 2nd and Disney's Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian bowing on May 16th, in addition to the Memorial Day duel between Speed Racer and Indiana Jones.

Larry and Andy Wachowski (The Matrix) are writing and directing the new Speed Racer film with Joel Silver producing (see 'Wachowskis to Helm Live Action Speed Racer') along with Vince Vaughn, who is likely to play Racer X, the older brother of Speed Racer.  According to IGN, the Wachowski's, who were impressed that the G-rated Ice Age 2 made as much money on its opening weekend as V for Vendetta (which they produced) made in its entire run, are planning to make Speed Racer a G- or at most a PG-rated film.
