Illustrator Mark Dudley saw the comments from retailer Gail Burt (see 'Gail Burt of Metropolis Comics on the State of Comics') and welcomes the current literary thought going into comics:

My wife is a Christian, while I'm agnostic.  She believes in the concept of 'the good ole days;' I believe that the only constant in life is change.

Now it shouldn't surprise you that we had a conversation concerning other religions and ethnicities in America (At this point, I feel it is important to point out that we are an African American couple).  My wife goes on a rant about how this country was founded on English and Christianity and anyone who can't get with that needs to get the hell out of here.

After listening to her for a while, hearing her out, so to speak, I pointed out a few other facts concerning the founding of our great nation.  I reminded my wife that this country was ALSO built on SLAVERY.  I also reminder her that the first inhabitants of this country SPOKE MANY LANGUAGES.

I am sharing this to point out to Gail that it is important to see the merits of any situation.  I would hope that Gail would see that even though she doesn't feel as GOOD about comics as she used too, a lot of factors are behind this.

One, she is probably a lot older than she was then.  Two, her world view has changed as she has gotten older.  Thus, she probably couldn't relate to those stories on the same level if she tried.

I for one am glad some literary thought is going into books these days.  Makes them a welcome alternative to novels and other pulp literature.
