Animenation is reporting that the first of four new 'rebuilding' of Evangelion anime features will open in theaters in Japan on September 1st.  The new movies provide several different perspectives on the Neon Genesis Evangelion saga including elements of the 'school drama' and other narrative threads that were present in the original TV series but not necessarily emphasized in the same way that they will be in the new films  (see 'Rebuilding Evangelion').

Given the lasting popularity of the original Evangelion series (and movies), the 'rebirth' of this property is a very big event especially in view of the amount of merchandise that the Evangelion property has inspired.
