Marvel's new hardcover program continues to draw retailer response.  Here's a different take from a retailer who's more concerned about production quality than price -- Terry Allen of Bonanza Books and Comics in Modesto, California.

Just an aside on the retailer rants on Marvel's hardcover pricing.  I have no problem on what cover price Marvel wants to stick on their books. A few bucks more on a hot item like Origin just means more cash in my pocket.    What I do have a problem [with] is the lack of quality and care that has been showing up in the new Masterworks editions. The customers that have plopped down $49.95 for the new Thor and Daredevil hardcover have been treated to many pages of sub par reproduction that drops almost all the fine line work and hopes that the art is some how held together by coloring alone.

My other concern is that the Complete Frank Miller Spider-Man will be just a reprint of the Marvel Limited hardcover that was put out a few years ago--a nice, slick package that had the art reproduced with the original color screens. Nothing makes those old dots of color look better than nice white paper. Here's hoping that Marvel will recolor the edition and I won't be sorry that I ordered so many.
