Warner Home Video has announced that the Superman Doomsday direct-to-DVD animated feature will be released on September 18th.  Superman Doomsday (MSRP $19.99)  is the first in a series of direct-to-DVD releases announced by Warner Bros. (see 'DC's Direct-to-Video DVDs') that also includes animated versions of Darwyn Cooke's The New Frontier and the classic Teen Titans: Judas Contract saga.  Bruce Timm, who is overseeing all three initial DC animated projects, told an audience at WonderCon that six more direct-to-DVD animated features are in the works at Warners.  If the DC direct-to-DVD animated features are as successful as their Marvel counterparts (see 'Ultimate Avengers 2 DVD Debuts at #5'), it appears that there will be a lot of them released over the next few years.

Superman Doomsday, which animates the popular 'Death of Superman' storyline, will be rated 'PG-13.'  The rating reflects the beauty of the direct-to-DVD format, which allows for a much more accurate animated version of the original comic book sagas since they don't have to descend to the milquetoast level of Saturday morning kids' animation.

In addition to the 75-minute Superman Doomsday feature, the DVD will contain more than 70 minutes of extras including interviews with creators of the original comics, fans and DC's Comics head honcho, Paul Levitz, as well as a 'making of' featurette, a preview of the next DC animated release, and a Superman Doomsday interactive game.
