Viz Pictures will release The Taste of Tea on DVD on July 3rd. Both a regular edition ($24.98) and limited edition (MSRP TBD) are planned.
The Taste of Tea follows the life of a happy but unconventional family living in a quiet neighborhood outside of Tokyo and has been described as a surreal version of Ingmar Bergman's Fanny and Alexander. It debuted at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival, and won awards at the 2004 Entrevues Film Festival, 2005 Montreal Fantasia Film Festival, 2005 New York Asian Film Festival, 2005 San Francisco Independent Film Festival and the 2005 Brussels International Festival of Fantastic Film.
Several North American screenings will lead into the DVD release. The Taste of Tea has screened in New York and Chicago and will be shown in Seattle and Portland in the next few weeks.
The Taste of Tea will screen in Seattle, Washington at theGrand Illusion Cinema March 16th-22nd and in Portland, Oregon at The Hollywood Theatre April 6th-12th.
