Matt Beckwith of Casablanca Comics in Windham, Maine saw Scott R Moore's comments about unavailable copies of WWIII #1 and #3 (see 'Scott R. Moore of Galaxy Comics on DC Reorders') and offers a possible scenario:

This may shed some light on Scott's experience with the peculiar shortage of World War III issues # 1 and 3: the week the issues were released we had some shipping problems at our two stores, namely at one store we didn't receive WWIII #1 at all and upon further examination, a large portion of our copies of WWIII #3 were actually copies of WWIII #1 with WWIII #3 covers.  Hence, we had a problem with both issues--the more perplexing perhaps being the misprinted copies of #3 (or would that be #1)?

Ultimately the situation was thankfully straightened out as swiftly as possible with correct(ed) copies and replacements.  However, depending upon the extent of this problem--certainly we aren't the only store to have experienced this--logically there would be a drain on the stock levels of these particular issues and thus result in a possible lack of availability when attempting to reorder copies.  Hopefully there will eventually be enough correctly printed copies of every issue available so that we can all sell through as many sets of WWIII as possible.
