The Anchorage Daily News is reporting that a resolution denouncing an action figure of the Rapist No. 1 character from Deathproof, the Quentin Tarantino portion of the Grindhouse movie has passed out of committee and is awaiting approval from the full Alaska House of Representatives.  The resolution, which has nine bi-partisan co-sponsors, was introduced by Republican Representative Anna Fairclough who argued that the doll desensitizes the public to the problem of rape.  Alaska has ranked in the top 5 states for sexual assaults and rapes (on a per capita basis) for 27 straight years.  Fairclough made it clear that she is not interested in banning the action figure, 'because everyone has a right to express themselves, but a doll like this shows a lack of respect for victims of sexual assault.'

The figure is of particular interest to collectors since it portrays the cult-favorite director Tarantino, who portrayed the sexual deviant in a minor role in the film.  NECA's Grindhouse figures are clearly targeted at older collectors, and neither censure from the Alaskan legislature or banning from Toys 'R Us (see 'TRU Won't Carry Grindhouse Figures') should have much effect on sales.
