ADV Films has selected the Korean-based production team of SunMin Image Pictures Co. to produce a feature length film that will depict the origin and powers of Lady Death, one of Chaos Comics' most popular characters. American anime pioneer Carl Macek (Robotech) has written the screenplay and will direct the film. Like many current film projects, Lady Death is a true international effort. Executive Producer John Ledford noted, 'This is not an attempt to clone anime production techniques, but rather a genuine effort to develop a new working relationship that respects the various talents of the entire creative team.'
Macek, who was the story editor of Harmony Gold's Robotech series in the 80s and the President of Streamline Pictures, the company that first brought Otomo's Akira to these shores, is a longtime veteran of the anime scene. He will endeavor to fit the style of the animation to the elements of horror and heroic fantasy that make the Lady Death character so fascinating. SunMin Image Pictures is one of Asia's leading animation houses, having previously produced Batman: The Animated Series for Warner Brothers, Gargoyles, Timon & Puma, 101 Dalmatians, and Hercules for Disney and The Maxx for MTV.
