The trial of Rome Georgia retailer Gordon Lee has been set for the week of August 13th.  The Comic Book Legal Defense Fund has already spent $80,000 defending Lee from charges based on an incident in late 2004 in which a Free Comic Book Day anthology containing an excerpt from Nick Bertozzi's graphic novel The Salon (recently acclaimed in the 'Summer Reading Issue' of The New York Times Book Review) that featured some non-prurient nude renderings of Pablo Picasso was mistakenly given away to a minor (see 'CBLDF Files Motions in Rome, Georgia Case').

The CBLDF has managed to get the charges reduced from two felony counts and five misdemeanors to just two misdemeanors (see 'Another Count Dismissed'), but the remaining misdemeanor charges still carry a penalty of up to one year in prison and up to $1,000 in fines.

With the cost of going to trial expected to reach $20,000, the CBLDF has put out an urgent request for monetary donations as well as donations of original art and collectibles that can be auctioned this summer to help replenish the CBLDF's coffers.
