According to The Hollywood Reporter Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, the writing/directing duo behind the frenetic Crank, are currently adapting DC Comics' western anti-hero Jonah Hex for a live action film at Warner Bros. Crank, which starred The Transporter's Jason Stratham, was previewed at the 2006 San Diego Comic-Con.
A Civil War veteran turned bounty hunter with a face scarred with 'the mark of the demon' by an Apache chief, Jonah Hex first appeared in DC's All-Star Western #10 in 1972 before graduating to his own series, which began in 1977 and lasted for 92 issues. Author Joe R. Lansdale and artist Tim Truman revived Jonah for three horror-tinged mini-series for DC's Vertigo imprint in the 1990s and it is reportedly this version of the Hex saga, replete with all sorts of supernatural/horror overtones, that Neveldine and Taylor plan to make the basis for their Jonah Hex movie. DC began a new monthly Jonah Hex comic in November of 2005.
