Given the success of comics written by Joss Whedon (Astonishing X-Men, Buffy Season 8), Allan Heinberg (Young Avengers) and other writers from the world of TV and films, Boom Studios announcement of new comic series from David DiGilio, creator of the ABC series Traveler, and James L. White, writer of the Academy Award-winning film Ray, makes perfect sense.  Boom Studios is introducing both writers at the San Diego Comic-Con, which is clearly the nexus of the increasingly connected worlds of comic books and filmed media.

David DiGilio's contemporary thriller Traveler deserved a better fate than its late spring/summer slot on ABC.  Though its plot was overly complicated, Traveler made great use of the narratives streams available in our post 9/11 world, and DiGilio's Northwind also taps into a modern obsession, climate change and uses it to great narrative effect.

James L. White's Hunters' Moon also utilizes contemporary social realities in order to realize a compelling thriller.  The middle class African-American hero of Hunter's Moon finds himself in a nightmare situation on a wilderness trip when his son is kidnapped and he is forced to contend not only with the kidnappers but also a contentious redneck backwoods community where friends are few and help difficult, if not impossible, to come by.
