Virgin Comics has announced that prominent New York-based director Ed Burns has created Dock Walloper, a comic book series set in the Big Apple during Prohibition.  The first issue of Dock Walloper is slated for a November release with the complete 144-page Dock Walloper saga set for a May, 2008 debut.  Burns will write the comic book line in collaboration with veteran comic book scribe Jimmie Palmiotti (Painkiller Jane, Monolith), while the Virgin Comics in-house illustration studio led by Siju Thomas will provide the art.

Dock Walloper is the latest announced entry in Virgin's 'Director's Cut' series of comic book/graphic novels -- a series that provides cinema creators the opportunity to utilize the graphic novel medium to create an illustrated saga without regard to enormous budgets such a project would require if it were put on screen, and, perhaps most importantly, without any studio interference.
