WizKids' Pirates constructible strategy game will be converted to PocketModel branding with the first release of 2008.  That will bring it in line with the Star Wars PocketModel TCG (see 'Star Wars PocketModel TCG'), and its recently announced licensed Pirates of the Caribbean PocketModel game (see 'Pirates of the Caribbean PocketModel Game').

The game play will be compatible with previous Pirates releases.  Unlike the Star Wars PocketModel TCG, neither WizKids' nor the licensed Pirates PocketModel games will include TCG elements.

A WizKids spokesperson provided this clarification of the branding change:

'WizKids is committed to innovating the constructible game category and continuing to produce quality games on this platform. As such, we are using the trademark PocketModel to represent all of our games that we produce on this platform. If you see a title from WizKids in the future that is a PocketModel game, you will know that the game involves the building of playable game pieces. Within the PocketModel brand, however, you will see several types of games.

'Star Wars PocketModel Trading Card Game is a combination game that includes build elements combined with the depth and strategy of a trading card game.

'Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean PocketModel Game is a strategy game involving build elements and strategic movement. There are no trading cards used in the game and we are not modifying the play system from the Pirates CSG games that players know and love.

'Expect to see more entries into the PocketModel universe in the future and don't be surprised if we add new twists to the PocketModels line down the road.'
