Anime on DVD is reporting that Media Blasters has acquired the 40-episode Tweeny Witches (Mahou Shojo Tai Alice) anime series that ran on Japan's NHK network in 2004 and 2005. The Tweeny Witches anime features computer animation and was one of the first anime series produced in the 'American' manner starting with a voice recording of the actors rather than with the animation. Media Blasters has not yet announced when it will be releasing the first DVD volume in this series.
The protagonist of this shojo anime series, Alice, is a relentlessly cheerful type who only wants magic to be used to make people happy. Predictably she runs into trouble when she enters the world of witches, as her genial ways rub some of the powerful resident magic users the wrong way especially when she sets about freeing the 'sprites' who have been imprisoned by the witches. Still she ends up helping both the witches and the wizards save their worlds from destruction.
