Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer knocked Knocked Up out of the top spot for DVD sales, and also topped Disney's release of the animated classic, Jungle Book. The second modern era FF film, which earned $131 million domestically and $154 million overseas, was available in regular and 2-disc editions and in a 'twofer' pack with the first FF film. Sales of the film in its various editions were enough to top the Disney classic. The Rise of the Silver Surfer was also the best-selling Blu-ray high-definition release.
On the rental side the FF film also took the top spot, generating $9.5 million in rental revenue, which allowed it top Knocked Up, which brought in $8.4 million in its second week of release, a drop of just 17%.
Another new film that made an impression on the sales charts was the Stephen King-derived chiller, 1408, which finished fourth in the DVD sales race and third in rentals, where it garnered $6.2 million. 1408, which earned $72 million at the domestic box office, was produced for $25 million and represents one of the few successful horror film releases of 2007 so far.
