According to The Hollywood Reporter director George Miller is embarking on a marathon casting session looking for young actors to fill the roles of Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Aquaman, Martian Manhunter, and Green Lantern in a proposed Justice League of America movie (see 'George Miller Working on JLA Movie'). Miller is looking for youthful performers who can grow into their roles over the course of a JLA film franchise.
Miller is reportedly testing 35-40 actors for the coveted roles including Adam Brody (The O.C.), D.J. Cotrona (Windfall), Joseph Cross (Running With Scissors), Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Grindhouse), Michael Angarano (Sky High), Max Theriot (Jumper), Teresa Palmer (Wolf Creek), and the rapper Common, plus Scott Porter, Minka Kelly and Adrianne Palicki from the TV series Friday Night Lights.
Miller, who plans to test the actors in groups as well as individually, is expected to report his findings to the studio later this week. With a writer's strike looming (it now looks as if the writers may not wait until the actors' and directors' contracts run out next spring) and more labor trouble expected in the spring, Warner Bros. is anxious to get the JLA movie underway and casting appears to be the main hurdle at this time. Warners is hoping to have the JLA available as a 'tentpole' movie for the summer of 2009.
