Gary Panter's Jimbo's Inferno, published by Fantagraphics, has been awarded the American Book Award by the Before Columbus Foundation.  This is the second such award for a Fantagraphics graphic novel; Joe Sacco's Palestine was a recipient in 1996.

About 15 American Book Awards are awarded each year in recognition of literary excellence by the entire spectrum of America's diverse literary community, without limitations or restrictions.  There are no categories, nominees, or losers.

Jimbo's Inferno is a retelling of Dante's classic, with Panter's Jimbo character, around since the 80s, as the protagonist.
