Andy Battaglia of Comics Etc. in Rochester, New York, saw comments by retailer Dave Schwartz (see 'Dave Schwartz of Comic Collection on Diamond Holiday Shipping Schedule') and says the new holiday delivery schedules are part of a broader slowing of deliveries:

There is only one reason Diamond is doing this: they can.  Retailers may also ask why the books that once hit retailers' shelves within hours of being released by the printer, now take weeks to arrive.

There is no valid reason for these delays.  In 24 years in business, books have NEVER been delayed by the Thanksgiving holiday and Christmas and New Year have always meant only a one day delay.  The economy is already in a shambles and Diamond just added the death note to this 'Holiday' season.
