Based on sales of the Top 300 comics, comic sales by Diamond to comic stores in October were up 20% over October 2006. Graphic novels (based on sales of the Top 100) were up a more modest 6%, bringing the total growth rate for the month to 17% vs. October 2006.
The increase in comic sales was not due to strength at the top of the list, where results were uninspiring. But big-time growth in the bottom half of the list (see 'Power at the Bottom of the List') brought up the over-all growth rate.
On the graphic novel side, the biggest dollar book was the latest in the top-performing Absolute series, Absolute Sandman Vol. 2, which sold in over twice the dollars of the #2 dollar title, Justice Vol. 3, also from DC.
