Variety is reporting that the Lone Ranger will be produced as a Columbia movie by the team that brought us Gladiator. According to the article, the revival will follow the stylistic ground broken by the Zorro update a couple of years ago. Also in development is a TV series at the WB, tentatively planned to premiere this fall. The property was last seen in theaters in the early 80s, when the battle of the original Lone Ranger, Clayton Moore, to be allowed to continue to wear the mask in personal appearances put a sour taste in many fans' mouths. No word yet on merchandise. The Lone Ranger is owned by Classic Media, which also owns the Harvey Comics library and other properties (see 'Harvey Sells Out').
